Play, Make, Create

On Friday, we did Play Make Create. This is where the teacher reads you a story and you discuss the message in the story. Then you create something based on the message and also do a piece of writing. You can use materials or make a digital creation.  This week Mrs Craig Read the book: Stinkosaurus Saves Christmas

It was about how even the most unlikely people can turn out to be a hero. I chose to make a scrunchie and you had to use a needle and thread and a piece of fabric to create a scrunchie.

Here is my work.

My Activities Week 6 Term 3 2021

This week we carried on with our ‘insect’ topic for reading, writing and art. We also practised solving problems using place value or known facts knowledge. Here is a selection of my work:

My Metamorphosis

Yet another thing we did for writing this week was to imagine that we had undergone metamorphosis.

We had to pretend we had woken up one morning and discovered we had changed. It would be like going to sleep as a caterpillar and waking up as a butterfly. We had to write about what our new body was like and what we could do. I chose to do me turning into Wounder Woman.

Here is my work.

Collage Insect

Because we were using ‘Insects’ as a topic this week for reading and writing we created some works of art based on insects also. We had to make them out of any materials we could find at home. I chose to use: Paper a Sharpie and a hot Glue Gun To stick the paper on.

Here is a photo of my creation:

Expanded Numerals and Solving Problems

This week one thing we have been  learning in maths is how to write expanded numbers. Another way of saying this is ‘expanded form’ or ‘expanded notation’. They all mean the same thing. It’s like you have to break the numbers up into their place value parts and then put + symbols in between them. Example:

7239 =7000+200+30+9.

Another thing we have been  learning in maths is how to solve word problems involving combinations of things. You had to be able to write addition equations showing as many different combinations as we could.

Some people found it was useful to do your figuring out using a table. But not the kind of table you eat off-a mathematical table.

Here is my work.

Science Fair Lava Lamps

We have been learning how to use the scientific method to help us explore a science topic of interest. My group included Phoebe and I and our experiment was about Lava Lamps. The most interesting thing we learned from our experiment was that the salt helped to make the bubbles form a lot better.

A follow up experiment to help us understand more about our findings could be. You could use Alka Seltzer to make it more bubbly and to see if it could make a better Lava Lamp.

I hope you enjoy learning something interesting from our science investigation.

Making a Fort

Eeek! On the weekend I made a fort in my room because I didn’t know what to do.

Excitedly, I decided to make a list of things that I needed to make a fort. First I needed a  mattress, lots of blankets, pillows and chairs. I ran as fast as a cheetah to the cabinet to get all the sheets. I ran back to my room and chucked them on the ground and sprinted into the dining room to get three chairs.

Instantly I got started with the fort. I laid a mattress down on the ground and put chairs around it. Then I put blankets on my bed as well as pillows. Then I started to put the blankets on the chairs. The blankets stretched out their arms. I was as quiet as a mouse making the fort.

A few minutes later I had finished the fort so I decided to just chill and lay down and dream about riding Sandy on the beach. A few hours later I needed to go to bed so I got ready and slid under my  warm cozy blankets and nodded of to sleep.

I had a great time making my fort and I can’t wait to do it again next time.
